The Samsung Galaxy Glasses are the result of a high-profile four-way collaboration between Samsung (hardware & ecosystem), Google (Android XR software + Gemini AI), and eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker (design & frames). Samsung officially confirmed the project during its Q4 2025 earnings call, where EVP Seong Cho stated plans for “rich, immersive multimodal AI experiences” across devices including “next-generation AR glasses.”

Unlike bulky XR headsets like the Galaxy XR (launched October 2025), the Galaxy Glasses are designed for all-day wear — lightweight frames that look like normal eyewear but carry a 12MP camera, open-ear speakers, beamforming microphones, and either a basic AI assistant mode or a full in-lens AR display depending on the model.

The glasses run on Android XR — Google’s extended reality platform — and are deeply integrated with Google Gemini AI for real-time translation, visual search, navigation overlays, and hands-free contextual assistance. Two model numbers have been spotted in One UI 8.5 firmware: SM-O200P (advanced AR display) and SM-O200J (basic AI-only), confirming two distinct variants at launch.

Smart glasses have failed before — Google Glass became a symbol of tech overreach, and early AR headsets were too expensive, too heavy, and too strange-looking for everyday use. Samsung’s strategy is fundamentally different. By partnering with Gentle Monster — one of the world’s most fashion-forward eyewear brands — Samsung is making a bet that style is the key unlock for mass adoption. If glasses look good enough that people want to wear them regardless of the tech, the tech becomes a bonus.

The Gemini AI integration is the other critical differentiator. Unlike current smart glasses that are essentially camera + speaker + limited voice assistant, the Galaxy Glasses are designed around multimodal AI that can see, hear, and respond in context. “Look and Ask” functionality — where you glance at something and ask the AI about it — represents a fundamentally new way of accessing information that doesn’t require pulling out a phone at all.

The phased approach also shows maturity: a 2026 first-gen focused on audio and camera, followed by a 2027 second-gen with enhanced AR. This is exactly the strategy Meta used with Ray-Ban — building a user base and developer ecosystem before going all-in on AR displays.
